Webber Surfboards
The Webber range is all about performance.
The entire range is built using our high end SLX technology, which we released to the surfing public a year or so ago - the feedback has been fantastic.
The 2010 range has had a few small tweaks and we introduce a new super high performance Shortboard shape called - The One - it is a very progressive Shortboard.
Greg is one of the world's truly unique surfboard designers. He doesn't follow trends he sets them. He is not afraid to put his concepts out there on the edge so we all can enjoy surfing just that little bit more.
Greg Webber is a truly innovative and passionate shaper. His ever growing and morphing range is built on over 30 years of experience with experimentation and drawing on the knowledge of other renowned shapers like Terry Bishop, Terry Fitzgerald and Cheyne Horan. Greg's desire to always be improving his own shapes and the surfing in general is inspiring.
Whilst Greg had been experimenting with concaves and rockers since 1986 it wasn't until 1992 when Shane Herring beat Kelly Slater in the Coke Classic finals on a flat rockered, full concaved board that he could really move forward with this concept.
Even though Shapers got to hear about the deep full concave, the general surfing community only saw it as a one liner in a single magazine. It took Shane's request for Greg to shape a board that could do a carve 360 in the tube to "wake everyone up". These boards gained the nickname "banana boards". By creating a board with such a massive rocker it gave other shapers the confidence to make moderate increases. People began to notice the radical curves, increased speed, bite and maneurability they gained.
Other factors that Greg had employed in his boards to influence how the board performs such as deck line and thickness distribution, were missed by most as they were distracted by the rocker and concave. These factors are only just appearing in mainstream production now.
Not satisfied with just board shapes Greg is involved with fin shape experimentation, including curved fins and raked oversized twin fins. He has also designed and patented a circular wave pool. He has shaped boards for many top ranked surfers including Taj Burrow.
Greg has been arguably rated one of the top ten shapers of all time.
The Afterburner maintains the overall theme that has made this design synonymous with the concept of the all rounder.
The new addition of the nose to tail double concave has only extended the speed of the board without losing an ounce of the flow, freedom and range of use which this board has always had. Greg perfected the deep double after many years of using the deep double concave through the tail of the Afterburner. He has also slightly increased nose and centre width, so that the new Afterburner is a touch more fish-like, making it about halfway between a short board and a true fish.
All boards are glassed with a 2 x 4oz and a 3 /4 patch on the deck and 1 x 4oz bottom with a patch on the fin area. We give the boards the silky smooth Pro finish and they come standard with FCS M5 Glassflex Series fins.

As of the 2010 Range release the Fatburner will be known as 'The Pulse'. The same awesome board with a new name...
The new Pulse/ Fatburner has evolved into a slightly more subtle version of it's chunky former self.
While the Afterburner has become more fishy, the new Fatburner has been refined by maintaining, but hiding the much desired volume into a much sexier package. The nose, tail and rails are a touch finer, yet the centre thickness is slightly increased to offset these refinements.
This is a great paddling, easy riding, true fish shape, but with it's super smooth rocker and straighter tail plan shape there is a degree of hold uncommon in most fish shapes. This hold and stability makes for a surprising ride in bigger waves. The big guys allrounder!
The Fatburner is made using our NEW SLX technology

The Mini Fish uses very high volume for paddle and glide, but has curves which fit into, and grip onto the wave face. When fish shapes are too flat in rocker, or parallel in plan shape, they cannot be surfed naturally, because they are too straight for the curved parts of the wave. You have to surf the board not the wave.

SHORTBOARD
Greg Webber describes the 2008 shortboard
model:"The short board has medium rocker for a balance between drive and maneuverability, and a deep double concave for a balance between bite and forgiveness.
After 20 years of designing surfboards for professional surfers, I have refined the high performance short board to have as much speed and response as the best can handle, while adding a degree of forgiveness which is as necessary for the best as it is for the thousands of competent surfers out there.
The two concaves create the turbo like speed increase, with the vee acting like a silky smooth gear box, interlinking turns without conscious thought."
