Channel Islands Twin Fin Dual Core
The Channel Island Twin Fin has a retro 70’s feel, with updated performance qualities. It was originally designed and hand shaped by Britt Merrick when asked to compete in a surf contest where shapers ride retro boards they have created themselves. Inspired by a twin fin that his father Al had shaped for himself in the late 70’s, and that a friend had recently found at a garage sale, Britt took a template off it, drew it on a blank and updated the rocker to have a more modern feel with added positive drive and carving ability. Thus, the new CI Twin Fin was born. The Twin Fin has been tested by Britt, Dane and CI Factory pilots in everything from weak beach breaks to good Rincon and has proved to be a fast and fun wave catching machine. To offset negative characteristics of a usual high-volume retro design, the Twin Fin’s rails are tapered and relatively thin feeling for added sensitivity and responsiveness.

The new Superfish 4 (SF4) is an amalgamation of the Superfish 3 shape, with some old design features from the past. While still targeted at surfer’s looking for a high volume modern fish shape, we believe this is our best Superfish yet; offering the perfect balance of stability and turning response.
OUTLINE: Wider nose, fuller outline up front, and parallel rails create a large stable platform through to middle to generate speed. We’ve eliminated the flyer making a smoother curve in the back half of the board. The tail outline tapers so you can make tighter radius turns when you position your back foot right on the tail. The swallow tail also adds bite especially in smoother conditions.
DESIGN: The return of the original step deck! This feature increases volume through the spine and out towards the rails, creates a flatter deck, while allowing for a lower, more sensitive feeling rail. Single-to-double concave delivers a very consistent and predictable feel, without restricting speed or the ability to transition quickly from rail-to-rail between turns.
ROCKER: The 3 stage rocker is well balanced, with just enough flip in the entry to prevent nose-diving in steeper waves. The flatter mid section maintains forward drive and flow. Moderate curve out the tail presents the opportunity to really jam a nice turn when pushing harder off your back foot.
FOIL: We’ve added volume to this model, under the chest and extending towards the nose and tail. This provides amazing paddle power so you can get into waves early.
PERFORMANCE: Renowned for its wave catching prowess, this model really does appeal to a wide demographic. It’s the perfect board if you’ve just started turning and you want to progress to the next level of performance. Or maybe you’re getting a little older, you’re struggling on a smaller board, and you want to keep turning. From knee high, to well overhead, the SF4 will keep you coming back for more.

Created in collaboration with Colan Australia, Innegra Matrix (IM) is an exciting new material that’s exclusive to GSI and the 7S board range. IM consists of 3oz bi-axial fiberglass orientated at +/- 45 degrees, an Innegra cross-net woven through the fiberglass, plus 13 unidirectional carbon strands, all of which forms a single layer of fabric that’s laminated on the bottom of the board. The deck lay-up has a quad-axial configuration of fiberglass at +/- 45 degrees & standard 4oz fiberglass at 0/90 degrees. With this build, we also use a high density EPS core tha’s cut and finish shaped, and a special ultra bright epoxy resin. Overall this construction helps to control the boards torsional flex (twisting), while the carbon strands control the longitudinal flex. As a result, we still achieve that ‘pop’ and ‘lively’ feel from the EPS core, but with an underlying feeling of control and dampening that’s closer to a traditional PU board. Less chatter, more dampening = smoother through turns.

“The Rocket 9 is suited to your average waves like we find around California. It works great in beach breaks because it can be skatey when you want to generate that speed, but then you step back on that tail and you can absolutely hammer some vert wall. I also think that with the shorter nature of it, it fits really well in the tighter transitions of beach breaks. I have ridden it on big open walls of some point breaks in Morocco and it went well too, kind of like a little scalpel or snowboard, but I think the optimal range for this board would be 2 to 6 foot beach breaks.
The Rocket 9 outline has the wide point forward a bit and the tail is pulled in making it super snappy and maneuverable. The swallow gives a great fast release as well. One of the major desires for this board was I wanted was to go fast and then turn hard when I wanted in waves ranging from super average California beach breaks all the way to grinding little tubes. It’s one of the most versatile boards I have ever ridden.
I like to ride my Rocket 9 two inches shorter than my normal shortboard length. With the wider outline up front its able to hide a bit of volume under the chest to make the paddling still super easy even though you are on a shorter board. “ – Dane Gudauskas
