Fish shaped surfboards have a wider outline through the nose, centre and tail, and are typically designed with a swallow tail. These surfboards have a low rocker profile, which not only makes them very stable, but ideal for smaller, softer surf conditions because they can easily hold speed. A Fish Surfboard is ideal for an individual wanting to learn the basics of maneuvers on a wave, with the tail easier to pivot off. Our range includes thruster fish Surfboards, Quad Fish Surfboards as well as Twin fin Fish Surfboards. From Al Merrick to Vampirate we have got you covered!

The World Surf League (WSL) x MF Softboards Global Shaper Challenge was conceived to raise awareness of the creatives who are the heart and soul of the sport of surfing as part of the WSL's #StayLocal campaign, which shines a light on the world's best surfers supporting their local surf communities and inspiring surfers everywhere to do the same.

Shapers, designers and creatives from all surf regions globally were invited to enter a CNC file and softboard design concept and the response was overwhelming.

Four designs were selected through a public vote via the WSL Instagram story to progress to the final.

Designs from Alex Crews @acsod, Axel Lorentz @pukassurf @axellorentz, Mitsunori Kumagai @kumasurfboards and Gerardo Candelaria Perez @cevichesurfco were produced utilising MF Softboards production process which is the global bench mark for performance softboards.

Along with the four finalists Mick also selected two entries to move directly into the final. The wildcards are Duke Aipa @aipasurf and Kamalei Woolsey Alexander from @modernhawaiiancollective.

Starting with the CNC file that each designer submitted during round one of the competition we milled their design from an EPS blank. Once the EPS core was finish shaped our Hybrid Carbon Spine and Epoxy Shell construction was utilised to ensure maximum performance in the water.

All six boards were delivered to Mick for him to put them through their paces on the peeling righthand walls of his home break Snapper Rocks.

  • Torq Tec Fish - White

    ALL ABOUT SPEED AND FLOW.

In keeping with the original Torq Fish design, this is by far the fastest board in the TEC line. The Fish makes surfing down-the-line waves an effortless thrill ride – highline speed and wide eyed grins. We have re-worked the design a little with a modern tweak so you can keep all that speed under control with fluid direction changes and smooth rail to rail flow.

Designed for drawing long arcs on clean waves the Fish’s width and volume also makes it a great choice for more intermediate surfers looking for a shorter board. It’s equally at home in average surf, where the large planning area delivers performance in weaker waves.

  • Aloha Keel Twin Futures Eco

This little fish is short, wide and thick with a flat rocker principle for lots of fun plaining speed perfect for smaller waves. However, these boards can be extremely fun and functional in good quality waves and waves of size.

The classic twin keel fish was developed in the mid 70’s as a knee board by Steve Lis. Pintail surfboards were a favourite of his, but his swim fins would hang over the side creating drag. He decided to split the tail, giving him the width needed to support his fins, while still holding on to the performance characteristics of a pintail. This fish proved to be a barrel machine, able to paddle in early, take fairly late drops, hold high and tight in the pocket and was snappy off the top. It wasn’t long until he had refined the design to suit stand up surfers, and the fish design took off.
