Mini Mals & Funboards

The Mini Mal or funboard is the type of surfboard good for progressing a surfers technique whilst still allowing more manoeuvrability than a standard longboard. The mini mal shape normally refers to boards over 7'6 with a traditional longboard shape, allowing for stable take offs and nose riding potential. A funboard is traditionally a longer board with sharp rails and tail allowing an individual to get used to the basics of take off and pumping without all the flash! A 7'6 funboard is ideal for the surfer graduating from a 9'6 or foam board, or a fast tracked beginner!!

  • This crossover range caters to all levels of surfers in virtually every condition. From waist high mush to overhead and hollow. The versatility of the Mod Fun makes them an excellent choice if you need one board to handle all the conditions where you live and travel.

Featuring a medium full nose and shallow mid-entry there is enough volume for smaller days and weaker surf. As the surf jumps up, step back and the board transforms. You’ll find a board that feels shorter than it’s length, delivering predictable handling and performance.  Tri-fin set-up.

  • The Modern Falcon is now available in TMRW TECH construction - blending mid-length versatility with materials engineered to tread lighter on the planet. This board features a durable, flexible 100% recycled TPU outer shell, a shaped core wrapped in fiberglass and bio-epoxy resin. It rides with the familiar flow and responsiveness of traditional PU, but it’s built to handle the knocks and pressures that often sideline other boards. The result is a longer-lasting board that stays in your quiver and out of the landfill. Even the fin boxes and leash plug are made from recycled plastic and the entire board is precision-molded to minimise waste.

The Falcon’s smooth outline, fuller nose, and balanced rocker make it a go-to option across a wide range of conditions. Ideal for surfers stepping down from a longboard or those looking to add glide and stability to their quiver as they progress to an intermediate level. It paddles easily, trims effortlessly and responds when it’s time to draw clean, carving turns.

OUTLINE: The wide point is forward to enhance trim stability from a central stance position, and the streamlined nose gives the outline a contemporary vibe. The back half of the board tapers steadily towards the tail for easier turning in smaller waves, and to heighten control in slightly larger waves.

CONTOURS: The rocker strikes a balance between paddle speed and just enough nose/tail lift for accessing steeper parts of the wave. Forward vee running to vee/double concave between the feet allows for very smooth rail transitions and a responsive feel when standing further back.

FOIL: Designed with plenty of volume through the spine for appropriate buoyancy and stability. The taper at the tips provides better performance sensitivity when riding on the wave face.

PERFORMANCE: The dual-purpose nature of the Falcon offers a stable and cruisy ride for surfers coming off a softboard or bigger longboard. Alternatively, more capable riders will find a surprising amount of speed a response when adopting a more aggressive approach.

The Modern Falcon is a reliable, and affordable board that will feature prominently in your quiver. Comes as a thruster with Futures plugs. Fins Not included.

  • Torq Tec M2 - 6'6"

    LIGHTWEIGHT, MID-LENGTH PERFORMANCE

Performance minimal’s are one of the funnest, most versatile boards you can own. Great for first waves, perfect for gliding small clean waves and with the paddle and pick up for larger or junkier surf.

Usually a performance minimal comes at a cost; the size of the board means to make it lightweight they are inherently weak and lose their responsive feel quickly or simply break. With the Torq TEC construction you get a lightweight board with all the strength of a much heavier one and much more responsivity.

Our combination of carbon strips on the top and bottom make these boards super lively and surf a lot shorter than their length.

  • Torq Tec Big Boy 23

This is a funboard on steroids! For this concept Torq used the overall plan shape of a minimal/funboard and boosted the width and volume along the length and foil. The result is a manageable, easy turning length with the paddle and float of a much larger board.

For improving surfers, this offers stability, paddle power and wave catching ability. For heavier surfers you'll find the float you need in a much shorter length. The single to double concave means you can still put this board on a rail.

With 5 Futures fin boxes, the BigBoy 23 can be ridden as Quad or Thruster.

    Dimensions:

    6'10 x 22 1/2 x 2 7/8 49.1 l
    7'2 x 22 3/4 x 3 53.7 l
    7'6 x 23 x 3 57.5 l

    Technology:

Since 2012 Torq have developed a name for industry leading Epoxy technology, offering performance and durability for the premium recreational surfer. By using optimised techniques widely used in composite technologies the TEC range takes that one step further; creating a board with an incredible strength to weight ratio and torsional flex properties.

The Torq Epoxy Composite (TEC) uses a 3 x 6oz lay-up and carbon fibre tail reinforcement on the deck for maximum strength. The bottom features a carbon torsion strip to control flex and give a responsive spring from turns.
This ground breaking technology has been applied to our user friendly performance shapes used in the Torq PU/Polyester range, to produce a truly high performance range of surfboards with unrivalled durability.

Whether new to surfing or just looking to enjoy a cruisy session, the all-new Torq Chancho is a super user-friendly, stable board that catches waves with ease. An offspring of the popular Water Hog model, the Chancho is available in X-Lite construction.

    TORQ X-LITE TECHNOLOGY

X-Lite is a torq Epoxy technology developed specifically for performance boards. This is lighter, stronger and more Eco than a traditional PU/Polyester board, now with a 50% thinner Shield Skin for weight reduction. With 5 Futures fin boxes, the BigBoy 23 can be ridden as Quad or Thruster.

  • Torq Channel Islands M23 7'4"

The M23 comes from the storied M13 bloodlines, a favorite hybrid board Al Merrick made for himself and rode variants of for decades from fun Rincon to maxing Sunset. A true high performance hybrid that caters to the widest possible type and size of surfer - and for the widest range of wave conditions. Not to be confused with the CI Mid, the M23 carries more foam, boasting a fuller rail and sleeker nose outline. It paddles like a champ while still riding more like a shortboard.

Whether new to surfing or just looking to enjoy a cruisy session, the all-new Torq Chancho is a super user-friendly, stable board that catches waves with ease. The Chancho boasts generous volume for its mid length size, and features low nose rocker for early wave entry. Its subtle vee-bottom contours that run through the fins help it turn effortlessly.

This innovative technology is used exclusively on the X-Lite Channel Islands models; the best selling Pod Mod and all new Chancho.

The Pod Mod features an Impact Mesh layer on the deck for strength and ding resistance, the Chancho features a Carbon Strip on the deck for longitudinal strength and responsiveness.

  • This is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. This is a funboard on steroids: on paper it’s a funboard and if you’re looking to catch green waves and do some turns, the width, volume and length means this board will do it all day long – it’s perfect for you. But in the hands of a seasoned surfer it’ll come alive.

Think of it as a shortboard with a little extra width in the nose but all the performance features to surf hard and fast. One customer genuinely told us “I was smiling so much I got sunburnt teeth!”.

    ACT:

Torq ACT surfboards are the world’s first EPS/Epoxy Pre-Preg surfboards. The technological advantages are immense, but the most significant advantage is 100% controlled process with ZERO surplus resin.

On any surfboard the resin’s function is to hold the fiber in place. It offers little structural integrity of it’s own, little flex and little impact strength. As a material without the fiber it is heavy and brittle. Any surplus resin is dead weight - resisting flex, adding weight.

With Pre-Preg process the perfect amount of resin is added to the cloth by machine, before the shaped blank is laid up - zero surplus, zero dead weight.

  • Small but mighty, don’t underestimate the power of the Scorpion 2. Donald wanted to make a wider tail, narrower nose and more rounded out version of the popular Scorpion model. This allows the surfer to go a little shorter in board length and can sport multiple fin combinations. This board excels in small California style surf to well overhead island style barrels.

Softop Extra-Soft is Surftech's highest performance softop technology. It rides and feels just like a hand glass board but has the comfort and forgiveness of a full soft EVA deck and rails. The hard, protective ASA bottom not only makes the board more ding resistant but it molds to the exact bottom contours from the shapers design, keeping all the essential elements exactly how they were intended.

  • If you like smooth surfing and catching lots of waves the Egg is for you. A classic Takayama design that can be credited with introducing many modern day “Mid-length” advocates this style of board. If you’re not quite ready to “rip and shred” on a short board, nor are you interested in cruising on a longboard, then the Takayama Egg is the perfect solution. This model is an “eggy” shape that allows the rider to trim high on the wave in the middle of the board or race down the line on the tail. Your pick. The Egg is a great board for beginner to advanced riders.

  • Torq Tec Rusty Egg Not - White

Simply put, the Egg Not is a squash tail version of our mid-length board, the eGG. With the increasing popularity of mid-lengths, we decided it was more or less a given that we offer a squash tail mid-length board. The Squash tail adds a little more area, lengthens the rail line, and has a more pivoty feel compared to a roundtail. The Egg Not is a great board to have in your quiver. When the surf is average, you’ll have plenty of wave catching ability and it will carry through sections but the board will still be loose enough to turn with ease. As a plus, when the surf gets a bit bigger, it still works surprisingly well! The Egg Not features a relaxed rocker on the front end of the board which helps with paddle speed, wave catching, and overall glide. The curve is a bit above average which translates to helping tighten the arc of your turns without giving up speed. The thickness of the board is a little on the thin side for a board this size. These leaner rails make the board easier to put in the water and also helps it hold better in bigger surf. Fin setup here is your call. For a higher performance feel we recommend a 4-fin setup. If you’re looking for something a little cruisier or more traditional feel do a 2 plus one setup.

    TEC - TORQ EPOXY COMPOSITE

    • Torq Epoxy Composite offers performance shapes in our state-of-the-art epoxy layup. These boards have the best balance of Lightweight versus Durability. Using our own unique lamination process, we are able to use a very strong fiberglass lay-up of 6oz and 4oz combined in 3 layered deck and 2 layered base (with a 4 layered rail lap) with a high density EPS foam, but still achieve a board weight that matches a lightweight fiberglass lay-up.

    • The result is light but very strong board, with good flex characteristics and as with all torq's, excellent value for money.

    • The TEC shortboards have 2 full layers of fiber over the deck and bottom. On the deck we use an extra 6oz deck patch with gives triple layer ding resistance, but doesn't resist the flex along the rail. The addition of a carbon filament stringer and UD carbon twin strips on the base makes these super springy and responsive.

  • Torq Act Volume +

The Volume Plus takes the trend for high volume wide boards into the midlength model, creating a board with the stability and paddle ability of a much longer board, but in a compact, easier to turn package.

These boards suit all surfers of all abilities, whether looking for a first board or quiver builder for fun days. The high volume makes it super easy to catch waves while the rocker and bottom contours make this lively and agile underfoot with more performance than you would expect from a larger board. Great for beginners, great for bigger surfers wanting a shorter board. Tri-fin set-up.

  • Creative Army Jumbo Jet SLX

Check out these real-life scenarios: You feel under volumed and the struggle of paddling is real. You catch the wave but the surfboard so unstable you can't get to your feet. Your home break is weak and small most of the time. You are a big human that can still surf really well but there's not a surfboard out there that has enough foam/volume for you. If you are relating to any of these scenarios then the Jumbo Jet is here to get you fully stoked.

The Jumbo Jet has a 2 + 1 fin set up that turns easily thanks to the smooth lines of the round tail. Complimented by a tucked edge in the tail and modern rocker the Jumbo Jet accommodates the surfer that wants to go down the line, hit the section, and move the board where ever it needs to go.

Throw in a little nose concave to help create lift for those heavier surfers allowing them to nose ride like a champ. The Jumbo Jet goes well in all conditions from small crappy beach breaks to beautiful points and steeper more challenging waves.

The shorter versions of the Jumbo Jet (7'2 and 8’0) will work a treat, they’re like the 'big guys' shortboard. These boards are for anyone that needs a little bit of help increasing their wave count. The extra volume allows you to paddle with ease, get in early, and give you more time to get to your feet. I'm so stoked on this board it's got my Dad back in the water in his Mid 60's after 10 years out due to injuries and it has got him frothing. Hope you get the same stoke.

  • The Mini Magic Dual-Core is a scaled down version of Walden's famous Magic Model. This is a good choice for a smaller surfer, people who are transitioning from a shortboard to a longboard or vice versa - longboarders wanting to go shorter while still maintaining some volume and float. The Dual-Core gives the Mini Magic the best of both style of constructions with PolyUrethane on the rails and EPS in the Center. The PU foam is laminated to the EPS with a TPU material which provides more pop and response.
Like the bigger Magic Model the hull has a unique design, the front 1/2 of the hull is concave, this single concave transitions into a double concave in the rear 1/3 and ends towards the tail that has a moderate “V”. The rails are hard. The concave nose adds lift and stability, perfect for nose riding. The double concaved hull and hard rails make the board fast, stabile, responsive and maneuverable in all conditions. This board performs as well as slow surf as it does on speedy beach breaks. The Mini Magic maneuvers well out of turns while maintaining a forgiving nature, and is an excellent nose rider too.
