Mini Mals & Funboards

The Mini Mal or funboard is the type of surfboard good for progressing a surfers technique whilst still allowing more manoeuvrability than a standard longboard. The mini mal shape normally refers to boards over 7'6 with a traditional longboard shape, allowing for stable take offs and nose riding potential. A funboard is traditionally a longer board with sharp rails and tail allowing an individual to get used to the basics of take off and pumping without all the flash! A 7'6 funboard is ideal for the surfer graduating from a 9'6 or foam board, or a fast tracked beginner!!

  • Gnaraloo Beach Cruiser surfboards provide the ultimate in fun and safety for beginner surfers. Theses boards are incredibly buoyant, stable, and easy to ride.

With an emphasis on safety and durability, the Beach Cruiser feature a thick Polyethylene deck and a soft slick skin on the bottom surface that’s tough enough to take a beating, yet is soft enough to keep beginners safe.

The secret to the performance of these boards lies within the core. An embedded plywood stringer system maintains the integrity of the rocker while providing a stiff, stable platform. This lets you paddle onto waves with minimal effort and feel confident once you’re on your feet.

These surfboards are designed to withstand the toughest of treatment, making them ideal for surf schools. The vacuum construction process eliminates hard or sharp surfaces, and prevents peeling or bubbling. A reinforced tail zone also provides added protection.

Available in a variety of sizes from 9 foot right down to 6’0″. Each board comes fitted with a convenient carry handle and an easy-to-use fin system complete with flexible thruster fin set.

    Softshell Construction

Boards with Soft Shell construction feature much more technology then the eye can see. They are a combination of materials designed to allow the board to perform to the highest levels given the constraints of the flexibility of the materials. All boards feature an integrated Fin System, 2 or 3 Wooden Stringers depending on the size of the board to ensure the board is stiff enough. A light weight EPS core combined with a PE foam layer on the deck and a High Density PE Slick that is mounted to a thin PE Foam layer on the bottom give the board an awesome feel in the water. Soft enough not to hurt should you fall on it but hard enough to handle the power of the waves.

  • Half longboard, half cruiser; the Modern Love Child offers limitless options in the water. This surfboard paddles exceptionally well, has plenty of turning ability off the tail, and will adapt as the conditions and your approach changes.

Built using our XB (Epoxy Bamboo) construction which produces a light, extremely durable surfboard that’s particularly strong on the deck, and has beautiful aesthetic appeal.

OUTLINE: The longboard outline up front creates a huge stable zone under the front foot and chest, which is great for catching waves early and riding forward towards the nose. The tapered pintail keeps the board maneuverable and adds control in bigger, steeper waves.

ROCKER: The low rocker is designed to glide effortlessly into waves and maintain down-the-line speed and acceleration. Subtle lift in the tail rocker promotes smooth gliding turns on the face.

CONTOURS: Concave in the nose creates lift when standing forward. Pronounced vee-double concave starts under the front foot and runs all the way out the back maintaining ample maneuverability on an otherwise wide, higher volume board.

FIN: Three different fin configurations offer 3 types of performance. The single and 2 + 1 set-ups deliver a free-flowing ride while promoting longer lines. The quad offers a faster ride with tighter turning capacity.

  • This is a funboard on steroids! For this concept we’ve used the overall plan shape of a minimal/funboard and boosted the width and volume along the length and foil. The result is a manageable, easy turning length with the paddle and float of a much larger board.

For improving surfers, this offers stability, paddle power and wave catching ability. For heavier surfers you’ll find the float you need in a much shorter length.  The single to double concave means you can still put this board on a rail.

With 5 Futures fin boxes, the BigBoy 23 can be ridden as Quad or Thruster.

  • The M2 has all the elements of a performance longboard in a much more compact package.

The center of the board is fairly straight and flat – this is the paddle and trim area, the functional section. At the front there’s a wide longboard nose with a single concave underneath – perfect for nose rides. From the mid-point back the template narrows into a round tail with a double concave vee underneath making this mini malibu super maneuverable off the tail.

A true Mini Malibu for all surfers in waves of 1ft to double overhead. The 4/3 set-up allows ultimate fin versatility.

  • The Boss will have a big influence in any line-up when it comes to catching waves. Designed to be an affordable, user-friendly longboard that’s spec’d appropriately for easy riding with an emphasis on stability, control and smooth turning.

Built using our XB (Epoxy Bamboo) construction which produces a light, extremely durable surfboard that’s particularly strong on the deck, and has beautiful aesthetic appeal.

OUTLINE: While not too dissimilar to other longboards on the market, the Boss has a very balanced outline with loads of surface area up front for more capable nose riders, a parallel mid-section which creates a huge trimming zone, and enough taper in the tail to break a line and turn smoothly.

ROCKER: Nice and low through the entry makes for fast paddling, which equates to more waves, tick! Relaxed through the middle, but with enough curve to promote a nice turning arc on the wave face. And finally, there’s a little extra lift in the tail to make turning easier for surfers moving up in their abilities.

CONTOURS: While most performance longboards have complex concaves for rapid movement and response, the Boss has a subtle concave in the entry running into raised vee/double concave through the tail. This is designed to help promote stability when standing forward and deliver a feeling of pivotal sensitivity when turning right off the tail.
FOIL: Designed with plenty of volume through the nose and tail, and also out towards the rails to provide added stability and make this board simple to ride regardless of your skill level.

PERFORMANCE: This is the perfect entry level longboard due to the volume allocations, the ease at which it rides, and of course the price. However, more savvy surfers will tap into the true versatile nature of his board and its reliability across so many different types of waves. If you’re a traveller, or just like having one dependable longboard in your quiver, this is it.

  • The Huevo, in SLX construction, is a classic hybrid surfboard that incorporates the best of both the shortboard and longboard. It’s round nose and fuller tail gives plenty of floatation and makes paddling a breeze. With its shorter length and 2 + 1 fin set up makes for fast responsive turns and manoeuvrability.

OUTLINE: Its fuller outline with the wide point slightly forward of centre means you can trim and glide forward on the board, adds to the great paddle power and to the stability and flow, while its round tail makes for smoother transitions between turns.

ROCKER: With emphasis on being an all rounder it has a low to medium rocker, this is why you will find this board paddles with ease and flows through those dead sections with minimal effort. A slight lift in the nose makes those late take offs easier and the slight lift in the tail makes for nice drive through your turns.

CONTOURS: A nice classic slight rolled Vee from nose to tail makes it effortless for those rail to rail transitions, while the stance is anywhere on the board, however getting back over the fins the board will turn on a dime.

PERFORMANCE: Think summer grovely beach breaks when you don’t want a Longboard or it’s too small for your Shortboard or winter reefs and perfect points. This board can handle anything from waist to double overhead and any ability from beginner to advance. Enjoy

    Biaxial Fibre Glass
has about half of its fibers aligned along the length of the cloth (0 degrees) and about halfway across the cloth (90 degrees) lending itself as a perfect option for creating a controlled flex pattern.

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam is a version of polystyrene foam typically found in the core of Firewire surfboards. EPS is typically the lightest of the three foams used in surfboard construction resulting in a much lighter board translating to increased buoyancy and floatation. Basically the lowest density or lightest board will float you the best! The advantage of better buoyancy is added paddling speed and increased maneuverability allowing you to ride a smaller board. EPS foam core is also less likely to deteriorate over time!

Epoxy Resin is a healthier alternative to polyester as epoxy emits 50-75% fewer VOCs (volatile organic compounds) than polyester resin, which means a decrease in harmful chemicals in the shop and the environment in general. In fact, epoxy is a common household item, safe to use without a mask and with only moderate ventilation. Epoxy is lighter than polyester. Under most circumstances, resin makes up a large part of a completed board’s overall weight. Not only is epoxy lighter than polyester, but less is needed per coat. This ends up meaning a lighter surfboard – a big plus for most surfers. The biggest bonus However is the durability and strength of epoxy resin.

All XF boards are constructed using a 36gram EPS core with a high-grade timber stringer, each board is hand laminated using epoxy resign and biaxial fiberglass on the deck providing a lighterstronger board that feels fast and responsive under your feet increasing performance in a wide variety of conditions!

  • Creative Army Jumbo Jet SLX

Check out these real-life scenarios: You feel under volumed and the struggle of paddling is real. You catch the wave but the surfboard so unstable you can't get to your feet. Your home break is weak and small most of the time. You are a big human that can still surf really well but there's not a surfboard out there that has enough foam/volume for you. If you are relating to any of these scenarios then the Jumbo Jet is here to get you fully stoked.

The Jumbo Jet has a 2 + 1 fin set up that turns easily thanks to the smooth lines of the round tail. Complimented by a tucked edge in the tail and modern rocker the Jumbo Jet accommodates the surfer that wants to go down the line, hit the section, and move the board where ever it needs to go.

Throw in a little nose concave to help create lift for those heavier surfers allowing them to nose ride like a champ. The Jumbo Jet goes well in all conditions from small crappy beach breaks to beautiful points and steeper more challenging waves.

The shorter versions of the Jumbo Jet (7'2 and 8’0) will work a treat, they’re like the 'big guys' shortboard. These boards are for anyone that needs a little bit of help increasing their wave count. The extra volume allows you to paddle with ease, get in early, and give you more time to get to your feet. I'm so stoked on this board it's got my Dad back in the water in his Mid 60's after 10 years out due to injuries and it has got him frothing. Hope you get the same stoke.

Flax fibre cloth is an engineered reinforcement fabric made from the bast of the flax seed plant. While flax fibre is one of the oldest cultivated fibres for textiles, it is only recently that its use as a fibreglass substitute has been acheived. Incorporating flax fibre cloth in the lamination reduces the use of regular glass by 1/3rd and adds a great earthy look and more importantly helps lower our carbon footprint.

SR GreenPoxy 56 is an epoxy resin which has up to 56% of its molecular structure coming from plant origin. This percentage is function of the carbon origin contained in the epoxy molecule. The final rate of the mix bio-based carbon content will depend on the hardener choice.

The manufacture of EPS foam does not involve the use of toxic isocyantes used in the production of regular surfboard blanks. Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam is light weight and has fantastic shock absorbing properties, making it ideal for surfboards. EPS foam has more buoyancy and flotation increasing paddling speed and maneuverability.

The Surfboard Agency has teamed up with the first, independent 3rd party consumer-facing “eco-label” for boards, the ECOBOARD Project is focused on reducing carbon footprints, increasing the use (and reuse) of renewable, recycled and up-cycled inputs, and reducing toxicity within the surfboard manufacturing process.

  • In 2017 Walden introduced the Mega Magic 2,  a new updated version of the Mega Magic… The Mega Magic has become one of best selling Walden surfboard designs ever, it shares the design aspects of the Magic Model but with added volume. This board has become so popular because its increased volume allows a rider to move to a shorter board while maintaining stability and float, yet it still manoeuvres with all the performance of the Original Magic Model.

Volume is taken from the length and redistributed to the width and thickness which provides excellent float and stability while still maintaining the famous Magic Model performance.  The Mega is about 1/2-1″ thicker and 1-2″ wider than a standard Magic Model. The Mega Magic will float like a board that is 12-18″ longer. For the bigger guy that normally rides a 10’0, with the Mega he can ride a 9’0 without giving up float or stability.

The Mega Magic 2 nose has been slightly pulled in – still excellent for nose riding, but the narrower nose will also perform better for more top to bottom riding.  Walden took out the step rails for a smoother transition from deck to rail creating a thinner rail for more sensitivity, feel and control.

Introduced FCSII fin boxes to the whole line up, snap in fins allow more versatility of fin selection on the fly.

  • For 2017 Walden is introducing the Mega Magic 2,  a new updated version of the Mega Magic… The Mega Magic has become one of best selling Walden surfboard designs ever, it shares the design aspects of the Magic Model but with added volume.

    Construction

X-2 Epoxy is a multi-layered sandwich construction using epoxy resin, woven fiberglass and sheets of thin wood veneer wrapped around a Nanoweld EPS core. This construction method produces a light, extremely durable surfboard that's particularly strong on the deck.

The durability and strength of X-2 Epoxy boards make them ideal for SUP's, surfers who like to travel, and heavy beach break conditions where other boards are prone to breaking. X-2 Epoxy boards feel solid under your feet and can take an absolute beating while maintaining their appearance for many years.
