The shape is short and wide providing loads of planing area and with around 30% more volume than the Thruster, loads of float too. The rocker is flat for maximum speed and the foil carries out to the rail so you can power through turns without bogging the rail.

ACT:

Torq ACT surfboards are the world’s first EPS/Epoxy Pre-Preg surfboards. The technological advantages are immense, but the most significant advantage is 100% controlled process with ZERO surplus resin.

On any surfboard the resin’s function is to hold the fiber in place. It offers little structural integrity of it’s own, little flex and little impact strength. As a material without the fiber it is heavy and brittle. Any surplus resin is dead weight - resisting flex, adding weight.

With Pre-Preg process the perfect amount of resin is added to the cloth by machine, before the shaped blank is laid up - zero surplus, zero dead weight.

Game over; this board wins! The Checkmate is a take-no-prisoners, no-holds-barred, capture-your-king kind of longboard, so get ready to surf at the top of your abilities. Designed by Wayne Rich in the 80s as a contest board for Donald Takayama and Dewey Weber’s visionary resurgence of longboard competition, the Checkmate is quick off the bottom, nimble rail to rail, and powerful off the tail, the Checkmate is every bit a performance longboard. Fast wrapping turning in the pocket and hard down-the-line bottom turns are standard maneuvers for this modern gal. At the same time, a soulful outline meets a timeless bottom contour that rolls into a classic 60/40 longboard rail, resulting in a board that noserides, trims, and glides as lovely as any traditional log on the market.
